"Rain, rain go away. Come again another day..."

We all sang that song as children and the fact is that "another day" always comes (especially in April and May). While the rain may be great and highly necessary for our lawns and gardens (and let's be honest, anything that isn't snow is a welcome relief this time of the year) it does tend to limit our outdoor activities for those of us who tend to hibernate during the winter months and are itching to get outside at the first hint of Spring. When it comes to a rainy day in Ontario, many people might feel like their options are limited. However, there are still plenty of fun and exciting activities to enjoy, even when the weather is less than ideal.

In this article, we'll share our top picks for what to do in Ontario on a rainy day, helping you make the most of your time indoors.

Visit a Museum

This may come as a shock to a lot of people but despite what the inner voice of your ten year old self may be telling you, museums are actually not boring. In fact they are actually very interesting and can not only give you a chance to learn something new but you can give your eyes a break from looking at your phone/tablet/computer/tv screen for a change (unless of course you're reading this awesome, educational and entertaining blog). One of the best ways to spend a rainy day in Ontario is by visiting one of the many excellent museums in the area.

Whether you're interested in art, history, or science, there's sure to be a museum that will captivate and entertain you.

Some of our top picks include the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Canadian Museum of Nature. Once you've visited those museums then it's time to give yourself a real treat and go visit the greatest museum of them all the Bata Shoe Museum!!!! This is not a paid advertisement but we would gladly accept some free passes....

Catch a Movie

Bigger Is Better. (We're talking about screen size of course.) And no matter how great a home theatre setup you have at home, nothing compares to watching a movie on the big screen. On a rainy day, there's nothing quite like sitting back and enjoying a good movie. Whether you prefer the latest blockbuster or a classic film, there are plenty of great cinemas to choose from in Ontario.

Some of our favourites include the TIFF Bell Lightbox, the Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas, and the Scotiabank Theatre Toronto.

For everyone else however, If you're looking for a fun and exciting indoor activity, an escape room could be just the ticket.

Fortunately, Ontario is home to some of the best shopping destinations in Canada, with plenty of malls, outlets, and boutique shops to explore. Unless of course you have money to fly to Paris, Los Angeles, Italy or Dubai then by all means hop on your private jet and go there instead. Some of our top picks include the Toronto Eaton Centre, the Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre, and the Outlet Collection at Niagara.

Visit an Indoor Waterpark

If you're traveling with kids, an indoor waterpark can be a great way to beat the rainy day blues. Yes we are well aware that sometimes little Timmy can get all kinds of cranky if he doesn't get to play ten hours of Fortnite every day but it's worth the risk.

This is the closest thing you will ever experience to finding a golden ticket and getting a behind the scenes tour of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory for adults. So we strongly suggest that you find yourself a designated driver and get out and explore this magical "world of imagination."

A rainy day can be the perfect excuse to sample some of the best local brews and spirits, such as the Steam Whistle Brewing Company, the Mill Street Brewery, and the Dillon's Small Batch Distillers.
